The first minute after a spill is the most important time. You need to act fast, but you must act correctly. The goal is to get as much wine out of the rug as possible before it dries. Once the wine dries, the sugars and tannins in the grapes can “dye” the silk fibers permanently.
For the best silk rug emergency care, you should grab a stack of clean, white paper towels or a white cotton cloth. Do not use a colored towel, as the color from the towel might bleed into your rug. Gently lay the towel over the spill. Do not push down hard. Just let the towel soak up the wine. When the towel is red, switch to a fresh one. Keep doing this until no more red wine comes up.
